Write an essay response to the questions listed below. Your paper should begin with an overview of your opinion and a summary of data supporting it, relying on evidence from the stated in clear and organized manner and conclude with a re-stating of your thesis statement based on the evidence you cover. The paper should be approximately two-and-a-half pages double-spaced with citations of our relevant sources to provide evidence for your argument. Include a bibliography. Post your writing on the Blackboard course site in the appropriately marked portal.
The questions are
Find and review an academic article from a cultural anthropology journal on a topic of your choice that first within the scope of the course. Beyond summarizing the article, you need to provide a critical review of the content. This means you need to evaluate and determine how successful or not the author(s) was in clarifying and supporting their arguments with evidence including how accurate their analysis was based on that data. Does the conclusion(s) the author(s) teach logically flow from the evidence and is it appropriate in scope (I.e., Does it over-generalize or not)? Some additional examples of critiques on which you may choose to focus include the appropriateness and reliability of the research methods used and whether or not there is key evidence missing that could have reasonably been collected or included.
there is multiple scholarly journals that cover cultural anthropology, you can find these by searching the Rowan College at Burlington County library online

Please record your reactions to the video, “The Magnificent African Cake.” The story of European colonialism in Africa is a very complicated story, but there are some themes that are consistent. What stood out for you? What was surprising to you? Now that you have developed some in-depth knowledge of African history, what is your take-away from the documentary? What new questions did the video raise for you?

How does the article enhance your understanding of some of the themes from the secondary readings (this might include larger historical context or changes to american foreign policy, civil rights, gender relations, etc.) or the document discussions from class?

Your précis (a short summary and analysis of an article) should be between two and three pages in length, typed and double-spaced with a simple header (your name and a title will suffice) that does not waste space. Please proofread your précis, as this is a college-level assignment that should utilize proper grammar and sentence structure. The précis is due Tuesday, December 15th.
The précis should cover one of the articles we have covered in the course, from the list below:
“Americans, Germans, and War Crimes” by James Weingartner
“Security Against Democracy” by Elaine May
“The Whole United States is Southern!” by Charles M. Payne
“The Long Civil Rights Movement” by Jacquelyn Hall
Half of the assignment’s points will be given for turning in an honest attempt at the assignment (one paragraph “blurbs” do not count), with the remainder being given for thoroughness and thoughtfulness in reflecting on the article you are covering.
In writing a précis, you should:
Summarize the author’s argument. What is their article about, and what interpretation of the subject matter are they offering?
Connect the article with material in the Foner textbook or primary sources. How does the article enhance your understanding of some of the themes from the secondary readings (this might include larger historical context or changes to American foreign policy, civil rights, gender relations, etc.) or the document discussions from class? Cite your sources appropriately with a page number or document title.
Do at least one of the following (being thorough here is what divides 80% from 90% and 100% papers):
Discuss how and why this article challenges an earlier interpretation of history.
Analyze how this article relates to one or more of the other articles we have read this semester.
Critique the kinds of evidence and sources the author provides—are there additional sources or perspectives that would make the argument better or provide a more complete picture of their subject?

Use the Discussion Questions from the articles to help focus your readings and develop a “skeleton” for your papers.
