Analysis/ Explanation of the Item
As an administrator or educator in an early childhood education program, your most important and first responsibility is to keep children safe and protect them from harm. There are so many parts to safety and risk management, but without it there would be no program!
Some of these responsibilities include but are not limited to: nutrition, physical health activity, dental health, the health and safety of the environment that the children are in (both indoor and outdoor), and managing emergency situations (Freeman, Decker, & Decker, 2017) . You must also keep in mind of special needs children as they may have a few more or different responsibilities to remember. Not only do you have to worry about implementing these standards, but being positive about the subject and educating the children how to be safe and take care of themselves. (Freeman, Decker, & Decker, 2017)
“It is important to classify your risks and document them so they can be constantly evaluated and the changes monitored” (Cortuccio, 2014, p 17). Logical classifications of risk include financial/budgetary risks, human resources risks, property risks and liability risks. For the non-risk manager types, this needs to be a very thought provoking experience.” (Corluccio,2014) ….

5 Practical Ideas
Have all emergency supplies (first aid kit, emergency evacuation bag, shelter in place kits, emergency records, etc.) in place and updated, (Freeman, Decker, & Decker, 2017).

A staff member trained in CPR and first aid must be present in each classroom at all times. (NAEYC, 2018)
Emergency kit and clipboard taken on all emergencies (NAEYC, 2018)
Review all risk management policies and procedures with staff regularly (Freeman, Decker, & Decker, 2017).
